In this performance, you see Mickey Mouse not in his familiar capacity as an entertainer on a stage but as a cleaner in the backstage area of a theater. You see him doing his chores, being bored, eating and waiting. Behind the curtains, a show takes place that you witness only through sound snatches of music, an applauding audience and shadows of a light show. Mickey is not part of it.
This performance was part of my graduation project in which I researched 'anti-tainment'.

I stage the figure Mickey Mouse in an interview video as you sometimes see at exhibitions of famous artists. For a long time Mickey felt happy being the mascot of Disney but something has changed. He no longer believes in The American Dream and is looking for a new identity.
I take advantage of his iconic value by going against the norm. By portraying him as a critical, dejected artist, I go against expectations and make them visible.
