MAN ZONDER ZIN - AHK

set design

2020

A graduation film from the Amsterdam School of Drama and Contemporary Music, the Design & Technology program and the Production of Performing Arts program. In collaboration with students Cinematography of the Film Academy and Theatre Design of the Utrecht School of the Arts. The theatrical film Man Without Sense is based on the play Mann Uten Hensikt by Norwegian playwright Arne Lygre.

The scenography consists of an enclosed space of white cotton cloths that were used differently in each act. In the first act it was super sleek and clean only to become increasingly cluttered and 'clothier'.
The world of the movie set became more and more visible and the illusion continued to break down. More and more furniture was removed, technology became visible, and eventually the canvases were taken down. The characters got caught up in a shrinking space.
